  • Mauricio Cerda, Universidad de Chile, Chile
  • Ariane Hernández, Universidad de Chile, Chile

This course is aimed to graduate or post-graduate students at any level of their careers who have an interest in molecular biology of trypanosomatids. Young researchers working in the field will also be welcome in the course.

These courses constitute the appropriate environment to discuss current topics in molecular biology and pathogenesis of Chagas disease, searching for common interests, giving the opportunity to promote collaborations among groups from different countries of South America and increasing the chances for emerging innovation in this field.

Courses will be focused on genome, transcriptome, proteome, metabolome and functional genomics, development of new therapeutical alternatives, as well as on relevant aspects on the cell biology of Trypanosomatids, all of them involved in host-pathogen interactions. In addition, the course will provide interactive seminars about molecular and cellular biology methods, bioinformatic analysis, including automated intracellular parasite count with MATLAB software, design of primers and new potential trypanocidal compounds, among others.

In addition, we will include oral presentations presented by selected students of the course. This activity will promote interactions between the attending students, new investigators and the senior researchers.

The theme of this event is aligned with one of our research/endeavours working towards one of UNU-BIOLAC priority areas— Emerging and neglected human, animal and plant diseases.

Interested applicants from the Latin American and Caribbean region must apply via www.chagasresearch.cl
